Many people have dreamt about being able to travel through time. Wouldn't it be great to see the world as it was thousands or millions of years ago? Still, up until recently our possibility of time-travel was limited to dreams and good science fiction. This is about to change. We have all approached a verge where time-shift is possible. How about rewinding some 100 million years ago to the times when dinosaurs - the magnificent creatures - roamed the vast planes of our planet? You can do that if you wish, because Walking with Dinosaurs Live show is coming to Europe.
In the summer of 2009, two years after the show started in its native Australia, Walking with Dinosaurs Live show is coming to Great Britain and the rest of Europe. Only 7 dates are scheduled for the British leg of the tour; after that the magnificent spectacle will continue to continental Europe.
How it all Began
It all started with the wonderful BBC TV show. It completely changed the way we perceive the prehistoric world and dinosaurs. The BBC show was watched in 30 countries and had an approximate audience of 100,000,000 people. It is still amongst the most popular television series of the 20th century, and took the 72nd position in the top of 100 Greatest British television programmes (of course we all know that Fawlty Towers was number one). This BBC film still holds the record for the most expensive documentary ever made. It used high-end computer-generated imagery to recreate the world millions of years ago. The TV film together with Spielberg's high-budget movie "Jurassic Park" changed palaeontology from an obscured science into a mainstream thing.
Inspired by the TV programme, an Australian businessman Bruce Mactaggart started to produce a live show based on the documentary in 2000. He hired the best producers and an experienced director with an enviable Broadway track-list. It took 7 years to plan and produce the show. The first couple of dates staged in native Sidney, Australia were visited by more than 100,000 dinosaur-hungry spectators. Later that year Walking with Dinosaurs live show moved to USA and Canada. Some 1,5 million people have seen the show in just two years. It is estimated that even more people will watch the Experience in Europe because this region boasts even more dinosaur fans.
